Overview
This course is for students wishing to develop and improve public speaking and communication skills in a fun and creative way.
Students will learn about using the actor’s/speaker’s tools: breath, projection, articulation, inflection, gestures, eye contact, and body movement in order to gain confidence when speaking in front of an audience.
Students will also have the opportunity to explore a variety of categories of speech which may include poetry, monologues, duologues, prose, Shakespearean scenes and or short dramatic scenes. There may be an opportunity for students to enter the Upper Island Music Festival in the Speech Arts Category.
WHO IS THIS COURSE FOR?
This is a practical and experiential course designed for students 13 years or older including adults. No previous skills are necessary except a desire to explore vocal and performance techniques, while applying these skills to a variety of literature and spoken word.
